Animation Upstarts
Lovely piece in the New York Times describing the rise of animation in storytelling. Apparently, Coraline reached an adult audience and racked up $85.2 million in ticket sales.

The last few years have seen intense debate that our animation fascination was due to fall into the uncanny valley - that our capability for animation was going to outdo our capacity for enjoyment of it. Basically, that animated features were going to go the way of the second two matrix franchises, and so real, they freaked us out.
